Cal Face Painters' preferred artists paint using only cosmetic grade makeup and glitters formulated especially for face and body art.  We recommend that in hiring any face or body artist that you not feel shy in asking questions regarding the products they use and if they are insured as a professional face and body artist.

In 2009 a consumer group released information about the safety of face paints. While it is true that face paints along with other consumer goods, many directed at children, and imported from China were recalled due to lead.   All face painting makeup tested met FDA or EU cosmetic standards.

We know hundreds of professional face and body artists worldwide and we find these artists to use professional, quality cosmetic products and strive to keep safe working practices.  And we have experienced no adverse reactions to the cosmetics use by Cal Face Painters.  Unfortunately, it is still common to find painters at craft fairs, farmers markets and painting children with non-cosmetic paints. Cal Face Painters does not condone the use of art markers, craft, hardware or fabric paints for use in face and body painting.
